Career Development Fellowship in Auditory Brain Imaging

The MRC Institute of Hearing Research (IHR) is a centre for multidisciplinary research into hearing and hearing disorders. We currently have a fellowship vacancy offering a 3-year planned period of training and development to conduct research on the neural mechanisms of auditory perception. The post is part of a research programme with the aim to use state-of-the-art imaging technology (high-resolution fMRI at high and ultra-high fields, high-density EEG, MEG) and analysis methods (surface-based processing and pattern classification analysis of fMRI data, independent component and beamformer analysis of EEG/MEG data) to investigate how basic sound features, such as pitch, location or phonological identity, are mapped in the human auditory cortex.

You will join a team that has unrivalled access to state-of-the-art imaging facilities at IHR (MR-compatible EEG) and Nottingham University (3- and 7-T fMRI, as well as MEG at the Sir Peter Mansfield MR Centre), as well as excellent in-house technical and computer support. You will also have opportunities to collaborate with other research groups within IHR and elsewhere. 

The successful applicant will have a PhD in a relevant discipline, such as neuroscience or psychology, or, equally, from more technical backgrounds, such as physics, maths or engineering, and preferably, but not necessarily, have experience in any of the areas of hearing research, human electrophysiology (EEG/MEG) or brain imaging (fMRI). The appointment is fixed-term for 3 years and will be to a starting salary in the range £25,622 to £27,223.
