Working Group on Opera House Acoustics

During the last meeting of the Technical Committee in Room and Building Acoustics in Sevilla some members have proposed to establish a work group with specific interest on the Acoustics of Opera Houses. This proposal is the continuation of a previous group who elaborated a document entitled Guidelines for acoustical measurements inside historical opera houses: procedures and validation, (J. Sound and Vib. Vol. 232-1, 2000, April.) dealing with the application of objective qualification of the acoustics of historical theatres.

Now the group formed within TC-RBA proposes to share experience and promote research in the areas of:

• Measurement procedures and accuracy in opera houses
• Balance between singer and orchestra: definition of parameter, its measurement procedure, scale value and design hints to improve balance

The working group can work electronically and find place for meeting in specific workshops. The organization of structured sessions in future conferences will also be considered.
